Minecraft and other game updates (It's been a while)

So, I've been engrossed in Rift for about 2 months now, got a character up to 50, got him geared and did the first raid.  I had about 300 server firsts (I'm in the top ten in the world for server firsts according to a guildie of mine) and I'm already bored with the game... I'm not blaming the game, it's new they haven't had the chance to throw in too much end game content or anything so I'm probably gonna unsubscribe and join again at a later time.

In the mean time I've been looking for new games to play and I'm gonna try to get this blog started again.  I've been through Half Life 2, Half-life 2: Episode 1, and I'm waiting to do episode 2 after they release episode 3 because I like my cliffhangers to be there by choice or else I'll go mad.  Other than that I've played some Bulletstorm, some Crysis 2, some Dragon age 2, I got Nvidia 3D (along with a new graphics card) and some Two Worlds 2.  I'll give a quick review on each during this but what's getting me to get back into my blog is Minecraft.

So, here's a small review for the games I've played recently just to get you guys caught up.

Bulletstorm: Best way to describe this one is a first person Gears of War meets Devil May Cry.  Bulletstorm is a first person shooter that gives you points (which you can spend to upgrade your gear and such) depending on how you kill people by doing things such as kicking them into spikes, pulling them into you or other objects, headshots and all that good stuff.  It's pretty entertaining but with all I've been up to I haven't really had a chance to finish it.

Crysis 2: I liked the first Crysis and Crysis 2 is even better.  It takes place in N.Y. (Manhattan I believe) and there's an alien outbreak.  Once again I haven't finished the game yet but you can basically play it any way you want.  You can make it into a ninja sneak up and kill everything and try not to get caught, or you can try to take off stealth, put on your armor and make the game into a whole run and gun game.  Graphics are awesome on the PC but on xbox and ps3 I hear it looks like Half life 2.  Just remember if you like the controller but you want good graphics, you can use your xbox 360 controller to play the game on your PC.

Dragon age 2: If you like story games then this one is great, it's like any other Bioware game, build relationships with people and it has an awesome story but the game play is kinda linear and boxed in.  You basically have 3 environments to explore for now and I kinda got bored and decided to stop playing for a bit, not that I don't want to continue the stories awesome but lately I've been looking for an action packed game, which brought me to crysis and bulletstorm.

Nvidia 3D: It's not a game exactly but hell, it makes the experience so much better.  Well, for most games anyway.  This little guy is easy to install, easy to use and seems to be before it's time (like nothing I've seen before) it makes games that weren't meant to be 3D and turns them into awesome 3D adventures.  It's a bit pricey escpecially if you don't already have an Nvidia graphics card (it won't work with any other brand) but I feel it was worth it, I can watch 3D movies (Not movies that weren't shot in 3D though.) and I can play almost any semi recent game in 3D.  Best ones I've played so far, Half Life 2 and Crysis 2.  Dragon Age isn't that bad but it gave me a headache because they characters overlap and it was the same thing with bulletstorm.  (You can kinda see a shadow of the people you're playing on the screen)

Two Worlds 2: It feels kinda like the first one, I had a hard time starting off, it's confusing but it's beautiful.  Maybe I was just tired, I haven't picked it up since the first time, I didn't have my new graphics card installed and the game had artifacts all over the place which was a probable cause for why I found it so confusing, I might pick this up in the future again but right now I got enough exciting things to do.

So, I guess I'll move onto the main dish.  Minecraft.  This game is tiny, yet huge.  There's no story (yet) but you start off in a block world, almost like lego's except a lot of the game defies basic concepts of gravity. It's a simple game that even some older computers (I'm talking 15 20 years old) should be able to handle.  It has simple graphics and yet it has outstanding environments.  These maps are all randomly generated on the spot and allows you to explore a new world every time you start a new game.  The game has no point right now, just to build and if you're not playing on peaceful mode, survive.  At nightfall (20 minutes after you start a new game) zombies, skeleton archerers, spiders and other monsters come out and attack you, it kinda feels like a horror game, but it's cute at the same time.  So, basically you have 20 minutes to build a shelter.  For newbies I'd suggest a cave in a mountain side, or just a big hole in the ground and place a roof over head.  Of course, you'll need lighting and a bunch of other stuff or else you're gonna be stuck in the dark and one of the zombies or skeletons may spawn right near you if you don't have a light source.  However you're in luck, there's a huge community for this game already with extended tutorials on surviving your first night, making gardens, hunting, mining, and everything in between.  The wiki can tell you how to build everything and youtube has some pretty awesome tutorials on everything else.

Anyway, I'm getting myself hyped up from the game, I may take some screenshots and link them on here if anyone is interested.  Feel free to comment about anything I might have missed of if you have a game you'd like me to review.  Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Happy gaming!

Rifts of Telera and an update on other games.

Okay, I know I haven't posted in a while, I've been playing a couple of MMO's that I haven't listed.  Turns out once you hit level 30ish in Vindictus the game gets WAY to slow because of your token allowance.  It's still a great game if you're casual but right now for a hardcore gamer, no PvP just mission after mission and the grinding is the same missions over and over again.

I also played some other games too.

Aika Online: A PvP based MMO where the whole world is open to PvP combat and is, I hate to say this, lame.  The game is great up until you hit level 30 where you run out of quests and grind away.  The bad part about this is, other people have grinded to max level and that leaves you to grind in area's really close to the other nations that will come and gank (MMO for kill you over and over again because you're a low level noob).  It's a great hard core player game and if you like mindlessly grinding the PvP in the game is superb.  You can eventually, if you get a good guild together, control your whole nation.  You give people orders, run around collecting relics which then supply your nation with buffs and there's a lot more to do.  The endgame is great but getting there is no easy feat.  It's free, however, so this might be one for you if you like PvP because all other big PvP games tend to be P2P, which I know is lame, but I'm going that way again.

Runes of Magic: A PvE game mostly, I haven't been able to get into too many PvP scenario's except for the guild siege which is fun.  It's free and has a pretty good community.  Every night your guild has a chance to siege where if you win, you get a pretty nice item, 20k xp and a bunch of talent points that you use to level your abilities.  The game is WAY to complicated to go into a major explanation but it's a good  PvE game and an okay PvP one.  You get two classes to chose from (you get your second one when you reach level 10 in your first one.  You can use basic abilities from  your secondary class and you have to switch to make the other class your main one. Basically you have to level up two classes to 62 (as of right now) to reach max level on one character which leaves you with a ton of options on what to level, but not quite as much as my favorite game in this blog which is coming up soon.

Warhammer Online: Yes, I went back to warhammer and I have to say, they haven't changed the game much since launch day.  It's P2P and an AWESOME PvP game if you're willing to work your way to level 40.  The only customization it really has is dye's for armor, you don't exactly have sub classes or anything with each one, however there are plenty of classes to chose from.  The questing is dull, the Public quests are fun enough but won't level your character to the max level which has been 40 since the start (lame).  My problem with this, and why I only subscribed for one month is that when you hit level 15, the PvP leveling process stops basically until you get into the 4th tier combat (30-40ish range I think)  Don't get me wrong, getting up to level 40 would be great, you get to work on taking down the opposing nations capitol city and everything but the fact that scenario's (aka battlegrounds) to get to level 40 are pretty much once in a blue moon, the leveling is boring and there's no one ever doing the world PvP stuff where you have to capture your enemies keep which gives you little xp to begin with.  Anyway, the games dying for the P2P people, however the first tier is free, you can sign up and get to level 10 for free however you have to stay there.  You can do all the quests, public quests and PvP you want but you'll always be level 10 (which means you can twink out at 10 if you're playing for free)

Now, on to my final game for this post.  Rifts of Telera or better known as Rift.  This game, is just freakin awesome.  At first I thought it was okay but I'll tell you why I totally spazzed in a bit.  Right now, the game is in beta.  You have your normal questing stuff, which is fine, but still boring, but once you're out of the beginner area you can start with the games best features which are: You have 3 sub classes to put your points into (these classes are called souls) and these subclasses are picked from  your role, which you have 4, warrior, cleric, rogue or mage.  Each of these have 8 classes + 1 PvP class to chose from and you can mix and match them however you want, whenever you want.  The next reason this game is awsome is the Rifts and invasions.  Yes, this is the reason why I spazzed over this game.  Sure, every once in a while you get rifts, kinda like the public quests from warhammer where you have some enemies in a certain area and you kill them, more spawn, it gets harder and harder and in the end you win a prize.  And sure, invasions pop up, small, mobile versions of rifts that are easier.  But the BIGGEST thing about these is every once in a while a MASSIVE scenario happens with both rifts and invasions, 50 invasions at a time and at least 20 rifts spawning them repeatedly have to be taken down before a boss shows up, this boss in the starter area (level 5-20) is basically a massive raid boss from WoW.  50 people attack him and he still takes at least 10 minutes to kill.  Yes, I repeat I've seen more than 50 people wailing on this guy, not including the pets.  All the time, more invasions come to assist with more mini bosses.  It's freaking chaos!  Finally the PvP.  You can enter warfronts from anywhere in the world and they give decent experience, some money and provide you with favor which you use for armor and of course your PvP class. All in all, this game is excellent.  It's still in Beta with a couple more beta sessions happening over the next couple weeks where they raise the level cap for each one and finally the characters are being deleted and the Pre order people get a head start for the real game a week before it's released.  I recommend this game for anyone Wow fans, warhammer fans, any fans of any MMO will probably like this game but the only way to know how is to find a beta key and join the beta for an excellent time!
